Heavy rainfall(37% excess rainfall) and flood in Kerala have killed almost 200 people in the state till now. The state has been on red alert since this week. The situation has been much worse due to hastened release of water from dams and landslide.

Prime Minister today visited the flood hit areas in the state and has announced an amount of Rs 500 Crore from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund(PMNRF). Additional Rs 2 lakh per person would be given to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for seriously injured.

Earlier PM hold high level meeting with the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the NDRF head, the defence(CISF, BSF, RAF, Army, Navy and Air Force) chief.
Approx 80,000 people were rescued on Friday and were shifted to the relief camps.
